Rochester – In a new way to kick off their annual campaign to improve lives, United Way of Olmsted County is seeking volunteers to share the impact of their work by sign-waving throughout the community on Thursday, September 15.  The event will begin at 6:30 a.m. at Soldiers Field with a rally for all volunteers to receive a light breakfast and pick up their signs. By 7 a.m., volunteers will be dispersed throughout the community to wave their signs, sharing the importance of United Way’s work with others. The event will conclude by 8:30 a.m.

“As a community, we are making progress because of our amazing donors, volunteers, and advocates,” Campaign Chair and President of People’s Energy Cooperative Elaine Garry. “There is more to do, and your community needs your support to create a better, thriving community for all. Please join me at this engaging kickoff event to show our community how important it is to unite together and create lasting change.”

All are welcome and encouraged to attend this community-wide campaign kickoff event. Many volunteers are needed to successfully share United Way’s impact on the community. Last year United Way helped over 37,000 people in Olmsted County by focusing its work on people in need to create thriving communities with quality education, good health, and strong financial stability.

“By providing people the tools to succeed, we can do more than help one person overcome the odds,” United Way President Jerome Ferson said. “When we LIVE UNITED, we change the odds for thousands of children, adults, families, and ultimately, our communities.”

Kickoff attendees are asked to RSVP at www.uwolmsted.org/kickoff. Individuals and teams of volunteers may be registered. If volunteers are unable to make the 6:30 a.m. rally but would still like to volunteer from 7 to 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, they may pick up their supplies at United Way’s office on Wednesday, September 14.

In the event of inclement weather, a rain date has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 20.

Each year the community unites together for the annual campaign to raise millions of dollars to help people in need reach their potential. Campaign season runs from Thursday, September 15 through the end of the year.
