Sears Hometown and Outlet Looks at Rochester for New Location
National Retailer Seeks Local Entrepreneur or Independent Retailer to Bring the Sears Hometown Store Format to the Local Area

With the closing of the full-line Sears store in Apache Mall in 2014 in Rochester,  Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ: SHOS) is looking to fill the void in the community. The Company, which separated from Sears Holdings Corporation in 2012, is seeking entrepreneurs or independent retailers to bring its Sears Hometown Store format to the Rochester area.

Sears Hometown Stores offer a wide-selection of top appliance brands such as Kenmore®, Maytag®, KitchenAid®, Whirlpool®, Bosch®, Frigidaire® and GE®, plus a large assortment of lawn and garden equipment, Craftsman® tools, fitness equipment and mattresses, at guaranteed lowest prices, by the Company’s price match policy. Through in-store kiosks, Sears Hometown Stores are also able to offer the local community the full breadth of selection available on Sears.com, as well as local repair service, and product protection agreement.”

Potential investors have the option of opening a standalone store – typically between 8,000 and 10,000 square feet – or adding a Hometown Store to their existing business through the “store with-in a store” offering. The footprint for an add-on Hometown Store is much smaller, occupying between 2,000 and 5,000 square feet of available space.

“We're looking for a highly-motivated member of the Rochester area who is customer-service oriented and wants to keep the Sears name in the community,” said Mike Jones, Regional Development Manager for Sears Hometown Stores. “With the addition of the store with-in a store dealership opportunity, we’ve been able to partner with strong suburban and rural businesses that have product offerings aligned with the Hometown Store’s collection.”

Ideal independent retail partners for the store with-in a store model include furniture, hardware, flooring, lumber and home category store owners looking to expand their product lines to better cater to consumer demand, without having to purchase any inventory. Store with-in a store partners have the opportunity to offer the 10 top appliance brands and full product lines in store and through the Sears.com website with no fees or royalties paid to Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc.

“With the top national brands at guaranteed lowest prices, we want the new Sears Hometown Store to be the first choice for consumers in Rochester for all of their needs around the home and for access to all the brands for which Sears is known,” said Will Powell, Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc. Chief Executive Officer, President. “We believe our program is a winner for everyone involved. The owner has a chance to build a successful business or diversify revenue streams of their existing retail store, our customers can shop closer to home and our brand reconnects with local consumers.”

The local owner is responsible for start-up and on-going operating expenses associated with the store, including: building or leasing a facility, providing in-store fixtures, hiring and training employees, payroll and insurance. The Sears Authorized Hometown Store Program is not considered a franchise program because Sears does not require an individual to purchase inventory or pay an annual licensing fee. The stores are supported by the Sears retail network,
which includes providing all inventory, advertising, point-of-sale computer systems, delivery, support and training.

Since 1993, Sears has helped entrepreneurs successfully open Sears Hometown Stores in all 50 states. The new store in Rochester will be one of 21 to operate in the state of Minnesota.
