Our annual Bright Stars event provides an opportunity  to highlight a successful adult with dyslexia.  This year our Bright Stars Event features accomplished children’s book illustrator James Pinkney.

Please join us at one of two events with James Pinkney on Sunday, November 13.  Mr. Pinkney is an accomplished, highly awarded children’s book illustrator and adult dyslexic. He won the prestigious Caldecott Medal for his book, The Lion and the Mouse, his adaptation of the memorable Aesop fairy tale. He has won over 100 awards for his many works over the years.

Mr. Pinkney graduated from the Philadelphia Museum College of Art, now the University of the Arts (UArts) one of the nation’s only universities dedicated only to educating students in the visual and performing arts, design, and writing.

Mr. Pinkney will be our guest at a FREE family friendly event hosted by the Rochester Public Library from 2 - 3pm.  This event will be a hands on event catered to children and youth.  In the evening, he will give the keynote address at our dinner to celebrate the Reading Center’s 65 years of service to the community.  Tickets for the free family event and celebratory dinner will be available in September. Space is limited so pre-registration is encouraged.  Signed copies of Mr. Pinkney’s books, The Lion and the Mouse, and The Christmas Boot, will be available at each event.
