ROCHESTER AREA FOUNDATION INVITES COMMUNITY TO PLANNED GIVING SEMINARS

The Rochester Area Foundation will host two more planned giving seminars this year presented by Claire Langton-Yanowitz and Mark Utz, Rochester attorneys. These free seminars cover a wide range of estate planning, from protecting one’s assets to administering an estate. “The Rochester Area Foundation is pleased to serve our community in helping people better understand what estate planning is and how they can make choices that reflect their family’s needs and values,” explained Amalie Frankel, the Foundation’s philanthropy officer.

Seminars will be held from 11:30 – 1:00 at the Rochester Area Foundation’s new home at 12 Elton Hills Dr. NW. A complimentary box lunch and beverage will be served. Tuesday, June 14– Estate Planning 101: Protecting and Preserving Your Family’s Legacy
What happens to your assets when you pass away?  Claire Langton-Yanowitz will discuss techniques to reduce taxes, protect and promote family harmony.  Her presentation will also describe how probate works and outline how to pass property at death without getting a court involved.  Additionally, Langton-Yanowitz will briefly touch on strategies for maintaining family control of your property during periods of incapacity.
                                                                                                               
Tuesday, September 20 – Values and Wishes:  Estate Charitable Giving and Incapacity Planning
In this presentation, Mark Utz will discuss how best to insure your charitable values are reflected in your   estate planning, while decreasing your tax obligations.  He will answer your questions about estate taxes at death and rules about gift taxes. Utz will also explain revocable trusts, powers of attorney and healthcare directives to ensure your financial and personal healthcare wishes are met during periods of incapacity.

Langton-Yanowitz is a partner at Yanowitz Law Firm, PLLC. Her practice focuses on estate planning and administration. She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of both Carleton College and the University of Minnesota Law School. After law school Claire moved back to Rochester to join her father, Alan Yanowitz, in practice and is the fourth generation in her family to live in Rochester.
 
Mark Utz, a Rochester native, is a partner at Wendland Utz. His practice includes Estate Planning, Estate and Trust Administration, Succession/Estate Planning for Business Owners, Business Formation, and Contract Negotiations/Real Estate Acquisitions and Sales. Utz successfully plans estates to minimize taxes and allow for an orderly transfer of assets in estates of all sizes. He is a graduate of William Mitchell College of Law and is active in the Rochester community serving on several nonprofits Boards.
