NEWS RELEASE:  August 2, 2018

ROCHESTER, MN — The SE MN Chapter #346, of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), is excited about their upcoming annual scholarship golf tournament.  The tournament this year is the 24th consecutive annual event; the chapter celebrated 25 years in April this year.

This year’s event is on Friday, August 17, 2018, at Willow Creek Golf Course.  The day begins with registration at 11 am, tee-off at noon, followed by a steak dinner and prizes at 5 pm. The group still has golf foursome and sponsorship opportunities available and continues to seek donations for door prizes.

Money raised from this event helps to support K-12 education programs and scholarships for those enrolled in college and trade programs that will allow them to pursue employment in the construction field.  In general, the goal is to raise awareness of careers available for women in the construction industry and provide them access to resources that will make it possible.

In addition to the scholarship program, funds raised allow the group to participate in the STEAM event hosted by Rochester Community and Technical College, a program called Block Kids, which is an event where elementary age children are encouraged to apply creative and practical thinking to build a structure, and other like events throughout the year.

‘This year our NAWIC Chapter was able to award a $1,000 scholarship for the 2018-2019 academic year to a returning student at RCTC – Uyen Dao.  Uyen is pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering.  This annual golf tournament allows our Chapter the opportunity to continue supporting women in their pursuit of careers in the construction industry.” explains Trish Bremer, with RPU, and scholarship committee chair.

Those who would like to participate can find registration and sponsorship information on the chapter’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/NAWICSEMN.
