GO Carefree Shuttle, a locally-owned shared ride van service, is now connecting directly to Amtrak® at the train stations in La Crosse and at Union Depot in St. Paul, enabling easy travel to and from Rochester and Mayo Clinic, with connections to more than 500 destinations served by the national rail carrier.
Several years of a partnership between Amtrak and GO Carefree Shuttle has led to this expanded service as an Amtrak ThruwaySM provider. Customers can make reservations and receive eTickets from the Amtrak.com website, the railroad’s mobile apps, or by talking with an Amtrak agent at 800-USA-RAIL.
“We have been in partnership with Amtrak for several years, and we are very excited to work with Amtrak in making Rochester a destination for their customers,” said Hilary Battey, Marketing and Community Outreach Executive for GO Carefree Shuttle. “With all the opportunities that DMC will bring to Rochester, Amtrak customers are guaranteed to enjoy their stay.”
“We are so pleased to partner with GO Carefree Shuttle to offer this connection to Rochester from our famous Amtrak Empire Builder train.” said Adam Krom, Amtrak Director of Connectivity. “Rochester has so much to offer, and customers have been requesting this convenient service to Mayo Clinic.”
This Amtrak Empire Builder train route provides daily service using double-decker “Superliner” railcars between the west coast and Chicago, with direct service to more than 40 destinations in Washington, Oregon, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Connections are available nationwide and in Canada. The train features comfortable reclining seats with generous leg room, sleeping car accommodations, a lounge/observation car, a dining car, and checked baggage service.
In addition to the La Crosse and St. Paul Amtrak stations, these GO Carefree Shuttles also serve the Amtrak station at Winona and the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. GO Carefree Shuttle operates seven roundtrips daily from La Crosse, as well as frequent daily connections between Rochester and the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport.
