Techstars++ Leader Knows that Strong is Beautiful
Rochester community members are getting excited to go Over the Edge for girls to share the amazing things girls can do through Girl Scouting. Rachelle S. Oribio, the Program Director behind Techstars++ at Mayo Clinic and the Youth Startup Weekend, is one of those ready to take girls to new heights! Girl Scouts connects girls to incredible leadership opportunities and skillful mentoring, allowing women leaders to change the trajectory of a girl’s future.
As a mentor for all girls, Rachelle is drawn to challenges, often making her feel fearless. “I'm the type of person that does something on a dare. The scarier the better, because you never know what you're capable of until you do it.” And the thought of rappelling off a building doesn’t frighten her one bit.
Being a woman working in a STEM field, Rachelle is a great role model of the Girl Scout mission in action. “In military school I was forced to step outside of my comfort zone and be physically and mentally resilient. Now when I fight to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles, those problems fuel me with the strength to try harder.”
She wants girls to know that failure is just a part of the process.
“Even if you fail, you'll have learned something. And by pulling yourself back up, you'll build the confidence to face any fear head on.”
Fueled by her adventurous nature, Rachelle is going Over the Edge to support girls and show them they can dream!
“The most important reason I want to support girls is because I was one. Because boys and girls should have the same opportunities and support.” From experience, she lives by the idea that whatever a girl dreams of, she should be encouraged to pursue it.
As she gets ready for the big day, Rachelle wants to remind all girls that nothing is impossible. “Find mentors. Learn. Prove your worth. Stick with it. Disregard the naysayers and show those doubters that strong is beautiful.”
