NAWIC SE MN Chapter 346 To Hold Block Kids Event at Gage Elementary in January

ROCHESTER, MN — The SE MN Chapter #346, of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) will hold their annual Block Kids event in January 2018 for 2nd and 3rd grade students at Gage Elementary School.

Block Kids is a fun competition using Legos, poster board, tin foil, and string to build a structure. The purpose is to give students the chance to explore their imagination, learn more about construction and the opportunity to meet people in the construction industry. The program is run each year by NAWIC members supported by volunteers from their employers which include many of Rochester’s general and specialty contractors.

“This is one of my favorite events because exposing children to career options early in their education gives them time to explore what interests them.” says Jessi Oeltjen, chapter president. “Our employers are such big supporters, and participation from our co-workers is what makes this a great experience for all of the children who attend.”

Each year, the chapter polls members for schools they have a connection to (an enrolled child or grandchild), and works with the school administration to determine interest and ability to be the chosen school. This year’s event will be held on January 23, 2018 from 5:45pm – 8:00pm for 2nd and 3rd graders at Gage Elementary School.
