(New York, NY, October 24, 2016) – The nomination of Greg House, dealer at House Chevrolet in Stewartville, Minnesota, for the 2017 TIME Dealer of the Year award was announced today by TIME.

House is one of a select group of 49 dealer nominees from across the country who will be honored at the 100th annual National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Convention & Exposition in New Orleans, Louisiana, on January 27, 2017. The announcement of this year’s nominees was made by Meredith Long, SVP : GM, News & Luxury, TIME, and Tim Russi, president of Auto Finance for Ally Financial.

“We are excited about the extraordinary group of nominees that are in the running for the 2017 TIME Dealer of the Year award,” said Russi. “These dealers have been recognized for the ways that they ‘do it right’ in their communities, and we look forward to sharing their stories over the next few months and celebrating their accomplishments at the NADA convention in January.”

In its sixth year as exclusive sponsor, Ally will recognize dealer nominees and their community efforts by contributing $1,000 to each nominee’s 501(c)3 charity of choice. Nominees will also be recognized on AllyDealerHeroes.com, which highlights the philanthropic contributions and achievements of TIME Dealer of the Year nominees.

The TIME Dealer of the Year award is one of the automobile industry’s most prestigious and highly coveted honors. Recipients are among the nation’s most successful auto dealers who also demonstrate a long-standing commitment to community service. House, 58, was chosen to represent the Minnesota Automobile Dealers Association in the national competition – one of only 49 auto dealers from 16,000 nationwide – nominated for the 48th annual award. The award is sponsored by TIME in association with Ally Financial, and in cooperation with NADA. A panel of faculty members from the Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan will select one finalist from each of the four NADA regions and one national Dealer of the Year.

“Sharing business practices with fellow dealers is rewarding to me, as each of us is always striving to do better and excel in business, as well as in our personal life,” nominee House said. “Many of the dealers I have met through my involvement with the Minnesota Automobile Dealers Association have become great friends and business coaches.”

House, who has served as president, vice president, treasurer and secretary of the association, is a third-generation dealer. His grandfather originally founded E.F. House Chevrolet Company in 1923 in Stewartville, the town where House graduated from Stewartville High School in 1976. He then earned a degree in auto mechanics at Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester, Minnesota, in 1978, and continued to work at the dealership that his father now owned. “I held multiple positions, from new car prep to technician to salesperson to sales manager to dealer in 2010,” House said. Today, he is part owner of the business with his father, who continues to work in sales, and his mother is the dealership’s office manager.

House’s deep roots in the community have helped fuel his philanthropic efforts. He is proud of his leadership role and contributions to the Stewartville Public Swimming Pool, a state-of-the-art aquatic center that features two 30-foot waterslides, zero-depth pool entry, lap lanes, diving board and water features.

“Investing in youth programs is very important to our entire family,” he said. “Any programs that give children – the future of our community – a way to make friends and embrace extracurricular activities are a passion of mine personally.” He has also served as a coach and mentor for Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest in Rochester and supports sports teams at Stewartville schools, as well as area athletic associations.

Since 1978, House has been a volunteer firefighter and first responder for the Stewartville Fire Department, and he was named First Responder of the Year in 1996.”I became a volunteer to be of service and assistance to my friends, community, customers and family,” he said. “Knowing I have been able to make a difference by saving a life or a home – and be able to go home to my family each night – gives me the drive to apply the same principles of service at House Chevrolet.”

He has also served on the Stewartville Area Chamber of Commerce board; the Stewartville City Council; Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce (current board of directors); League of Minnesota Cities (St. Paul, Minnesota); and Olmstead Medical Center Regional Foundation board (Rochester), plus other civic and charitable groups.

House was nominated for the TIME Dealer of the Year award by Scott Lambert, president of the Minnesota Automobile Dealers Association. He and his wife, Julie, have two children and six grandchildren.
