I am excited to connect with you! My name is Julie Brock and I work with The City of Rochester and Workforce Development Inc (WDI) on a program called Equity in the Built Environment, which aims to get more women of color into built environment industries from development all the way through to inspection. As part of the program, we partner with John Marshall High School Economics 11th grade students to expose them to more built environment careers through a curriculum we call The Pitch!

Groups of students work together to understand the needs of the community, the downtown local economy, and create a business to support both. Your role is to come into the classroom three times during their design to offer feedback and encouragement. Each day is focused on a certain aspect of their business: initial idea, design of space, and delivering a powerful pitch on Wednesday, November 20th to an audience of peers and community leaders.

One of the goals is for students to interact with people who are in built environment careers. I would love to invite someone from Viking Electric to participate!

FAQ:
Do I need to sign up for the same time on all three days?
Nope! This is a round robin experience in which you move from group to group listening and advising. We welcome you in any and all slots!
Is there any in-between work?
Nope! The students take your feedback and apply it on their time. If you want to offer more support and share your business card, you are welcome to do so.
What if I’m interested in being part of the panel or field trip?
