2018 Women Owned Small Business of the Year Award

On Friday, May 11, 2018, Karen Schaar, owner of Roca Climbing & Fitness in Rochester, MN was presented with the 2018 Women Owned Small Business of the Year Award from the state of Minnesota.  The Small Business Administration Minnesota District Office, along with SCORE Association honored her along with her husband and business partner, Jeremy Schaar. 

Roca Climbing & Fitness was chosen due to their innovative ideas, dedication to their community, and perseverance in growing their business.  Karen and Jeremy, along with their staff of 30 part-time and full-time employees host programs and classes to teach rock climbing and yoga with their focus on breast cancer survivors, at-risk youth, and adaptive climbers.  Their youth climbing teams have tripled in size over the past 2 years with youth climbers achieving top spots in Regional competitions across the Midwest.  Roca also strives to give back to the community through donations and fundraising support throughout the year.
