Job Description
We are growing and adding a Fire Alarm Installation Technician to our Fire Team.  PLT License is highly desired (or significant qualifying hours toward attaining PLT).  If you have an understanding of electronic theory, low voltage field experience, troubleshooting skills, a desire to learn, and a great work ethic, we will provide training and resources to help you achieve other licenses and certifications.
  1. Install and service electronic systems (primary focus on fire alarms) to meet applicable standards and codes. Test and inspect systems upon completion of installation/service to assure quality and proper operation. Provide system information and training to the customer.
  2. Complete documentation and diagrams for installations and service calls, clearly outlining any changes or special instructions. Submit accurate paperwork immediately upon completion of installations and services calls to allow administrative and quality assurance follow-up.
  3. Promote upgrades, system additions and enhancements to our customers to keep them aware of new technology.
  4. Observe and comply with safety regulations and maintenance procedures.  Promote safe work practices among the team and recommend improvements to management.
  5. Perform after hour's service (on a rotating schedule) to meet the needs of our customers.
  6. Attend job-related seminars and training classes to continually update knowledge. Assure required certificates and licenses are kept current. 
  7. Be available to assist in all areas of alarm service and installation as needed.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Electronics Degree or equivalent related low voltage field experience
 
Required Education, Experience, and Certifications: 
  1. Minimum of two years relatable experience
  2. Power Limited Technician License (PLT)
  3. NICET Level I
 
Beneficial Education and Certifications: 
  1. Electronics Degree or equivalent low-voltage experience
  2. NICET Level II and III

Physical Activities/Demands:
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. A majority of time is spent standing and walking. Extensive sitting may be necessary when traveling to and from jobs. Movements such as stooping, kneeling, and crawling are required. Climbing ladders and stairs are key elements to this position.  Heights range from zero to 25 feet on a regular basis.  On occasion, installations require working at heights up to 50 feet. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects such as ladders, spools of wire, and boxes are necessary.  Weights generally do not exceed 50 pounds but may range from 50 to 100 pounds on occasion. Reaching overhead is a vital aspect of performing this position, with reaching in front of the body occasionally necessary.  Simultaneous and repetitive movements of hands, wrists, and fingers are required. Audio, visual, and verbal functions are vital aspects of performing this job.  Excellent color vision is necessary in order to identify wiring color codes. Driving a company vehicle is required daily.  Driving and operating other machinery and tools such as a genie lift, motorized lift, drills, power saws, meters, etc., is necessary.
Working Conditions:
  • Requires working in all environmental conditions. Workdays are spent both indoors and outdoors, with some exposure to dust, insulation, noise, and heat or cold (MN weather). After hours work and out-of-town trips are sometimes necessary.
Other Requirements:
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required. Valid driver’s license, excellent driving record, and insurability under Custom Alarm’s auto insurance policy. Due to the security nature of our company, offers of employment are contingent upon passing a background check and drug test.
