Job Description
Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency, a joint-action electric utility located in Rochester Minnesota, seeks an individual to perform short and long-term financial and resource planning activities for the Agency, including generation resource planning, annual energy production and sales forecasting, annual financial budget development, and long-term financial modeling.   
  • Minimum starting salary $76K depending on education and experience.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Collect, update, and validate assumptions in the Agency’s resource planning software to assure all data inputs are current and accurate for production cost and expansion plan model outputs for short-term and long-term planning.
  • Perform financial performance modeling and economic analysis to facilitate the development of the annual budget and short-term and long-term financial forecasts.
  • Coordinate various activities with Agency departments, Members, and outside consultants to ensure timely and accurate load forecasts.
  • Collects data from the member audits and manages the annual financial metrics database.
  • Support others in the agency on additional projects; consolidating data and presenting in a way that best interprets the data.
 
Desired Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, engineering, finance, or an equivalent analytical/technical discipline.
  • Up to three years of experience. Utility experience preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills, including capabilities in Excel or other spreadsheets and database applications with the ability to organize and analyze large sets of data, develop functional spreadsheets, work with various software applications, and perform data analysis.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills are critical with willingness and commitment to learn.
