Series Agenda:
  • 3:00pm - 3:15pm Networking and Registration
  • 3:15pm - 4:15pm Educational Presentation
  • 4:15pm - 4:55pm Tasting (drink and dessert)
  • 4:55pm - 5:00pm Closing
Many people aspire to move into a management or leadership position – within their current organizations, at a different organization, or by starting their own business. Prior to making this career move, there are things we can do to prepare ourselves to be successful. Join us for a panel discussion to learn from three community members who have made the transition from employee to boss, mentored women to help prepare them for leadership roles, and started their own business. Panelists will share how they transitioned into new roles and give advice for individuals who are interested in making the same move. In addition to hearing from each individual, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of panel members.

Panelists:
Teresa McCormack, Owner Urban Design Studio
Teresa  is the founder of The Urban Studio and has more than 20 years of experience within the design and construction field. While employed with large firms she has had the opportunity to work with many rural and small urban communities through school district planning, church planning and commercial projects. Most of these efforts were feasibility studies utilized as a planning tool and application for funding. Many of them moved forward into construction or renovation projects.  The concept of The Urban Studio capitalizes on this expertise and provides services that benefit the Southeastern Minnesota region.

Larry Guse, Chief People Officer Think Bank
Larry is currently the Chief People Officer at Think Mutual Bank and has been in the financial services industry for 25 years, 17 of those with Think.  Larry's responsibilities include leading the HR functions and Facilities Management teams, developing organizational talent, overseeing succession and leadership strategies, and cultivating a constructive and supportive corporate culture. Larry and his wife Christa love to travel and spend time with family including their 28 nieces and nephews.

Julie Valenica, Campus President Kaplan University
Julie is currently the Campus President for Kaplan Universities Rochester and Mason City locations. In her sixteen year career she has been a manager of people in two major companies, General Electric and Kaplan University, and holds both an MBA and a Masters in Industrial Organizational Psychology.   She has managed more than 10 different work teams and departments, often moving from peer to boss. She is a change agent and is often called in when things are failing, to turn the business around.
