Public School Funding Information Session

The Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to partner with the League of Women Voters Rochester Minnesota, the Rochester Public Library and the Rochester Post Bulletin to hold candidate forums. These forums are an opportunity for candidates to share their message on key issues with the voters.

 

This November, Minnesota voters will decide whether to change the state constitution to increase funding for public schools without raising individual income or property taxes. Join Rochester Public Schools Superintendent Kent Pekel to learn about the proposed amendment, how it would change distributions from Minnesota’s Permanent School Fund, and what it could mean for schools in Rochester and across the state. Established when Minnesota became a state in 1858, the fund represents a longstanding investment in public education.

 

Dr. Pekel will also introduce RPS 2030, the district’s new strategic plan, and discuss what it will mean for students, families, and the broader community. The plan will guide improvement efforts in four key areas: challenging learning, purposeful pathways, supportive communities, and organizational excellence. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of both a decision facing Minnesota voters and the direction of Rochester’s public schools in the years ahead
