This Month's Topic: Increase Your Impact as a Leader of Volunteers

With an increasing reliance on volunteers, more organizations are realizing the value of their organization’s volunteer resources. Volunteers are a unique human resource for helping accomplish organizational missions. Skilled and competent leadership ensures that results and impact are achieved, and that the spirit of volunteering is sustained and nurtured. The Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA) has developed eight best practices to ensure that volunteer programs support the organization’s mission and expand the organization’s overall impact and outreach. Join us in April to learn best practices in volunteer leadership from Bret Adler, MAVA trainer and Operations Director at Camp Victory. Participants will leave with an overview of the eight best practices and local resources available.

Presenters:
Patricia McCleese has been Program Manger at Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity for thirteen years. Her job includes managing volunteer activities and programs, such as, groundbreakings, dedications of homes, and special events. She also supports advocacy activities such as Habitat Off the Hill in Rochester. She is on the board of Minnesota Association of Volunteer Administrators (MAVA). She loves her job and understands the critical role volunteer managers play in the success of their organizations.

Bret Adler is a native of Rochester, a graduate of John Marshall High School and Mankato State University (it will always be MSU to Bret). His degree in Recreation serves him well at Camp Victory where he has been since 2008. As the Operations Director, the volunteer administrator hat is the biggest hat he wears. Over 500 volunteers log over 25,000 hours each year at Camp Victory.

Since 2009, he has been involved with Rochester Area Volunteer Administrators (RAVA). RAVA is a network of leaders of volunteers in the Rochester area that meet to network, receive professional development, and strengthen volunteerism in our region of Minnesota. He currently serves as co-leader for RAVA. In 2013, Bret became a trainer in the Volunteer Impact Leadership Training Series from the Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration.

Bret and Martha have been happily married for 30 years and have four children. They make their home in Stewartville.
